Puttur: A youth was robbed of 68,497 rupees after he imprudently gave his ATM PIN to an individual who requested it in the guise of a bank representative repairing the ATM. This incident took place in Puttur on Tuesday.
The youth from whom the ATM PIN was phished through devious method has been identified as Karthik Shetty form Chikkamudnuru. An individual called him through internet and informed him that he was a bank representative and informed him that the ATM would be rectified and reissued later. He furehter informed the victim that the PIN was required to do rectification. Karthik Shetty believed the person and provided his PIN.
After the call was cut he realized that he was being duped. He immediately called tha bank and was successful in blocking his account. However, the 68,497 rupees had already been transferred to another account. A complaint has been registered with the police on this regard.
There is doubt about the complete transfer of such a huge amount. The money can be transferred as soon as getting the PIN. But, there is also information that it will take a day for the amount to be deposited into the other account. Therefore, there is a little hope that the money might come back to the account. But, there is no definite information about this from the bank’s side due to which one cannot have complete hopes on this, said the victim Karthik
