Kalaburagi: A 20-year-old woman was set on flame by her in-laws for dowry at Kodalhangarga town of Aland taluk in Kalaburagi district on Thursday morning.
Sharadabai, the victim, has been admitted to the district government general hospital in Kalaburagi. Ravindra Gotur, father of the victim told the media at the hospital that his daughter got married to Veeranna Bhalkenavar, a resdient of Kodalhangarga town in May a year ago. The Gotur family hails from Yekkanchi in Kalaburagi taluk.
Ravindra claimed that after marriage, Sharadabai’s in-laws began demanding ₹ 1 lakh and 50 gram gold more as dowry. “We spent around ₹ 1.5 lakh for marriage other than giving ₹ 1 lakh in cash as dowry. When I told them my incapacity to give the demanded sum, they began torturing my daughter,” said Ravindra, including that he got a call from her on Thursday where she shared the difficulties she was facing.
He said that his daughter was professedly set on fire at an opportune time Thursday morning. The police recorded her statement, in which she claimed that she was set on fire by her husband Veeranna and in-laws Neelamma and Gundappa Bhalkenavar, for dowry.
Aland police have enlisted a complaint against the three who are now absconding.
