Tumakuru: Food and Civil Supplies Minister Zameer Ahmed on Saturday apologized to people of Karnataka for taking oath in English amid the swearing-in of new ministers hung on June 6.
He was addressing the journalists after seeking blessings from Siddaganga seeer Shivakumara Swamiji here.
“I am extremely sorry for harming the sentiments of Kannadigas. My parents sent me to English medium school. That is why, I am not fluent in Kannada. I did not want to commit error while taking the oath of office. So, I took it in English,” he said.
Answering to a question on the reports about H D Deve Gowda not enthusiastic about having Zameer in Kumaraswamy’s Cabinet, Zameer Ahmed stated, “We are in coalition government. There is nothing incorrect in taking the recommendations of former PM H D Deve Gowda. The JD(S) supremo and Chief Minister Kumaraswamy have not mediated in the allocation of tickets or ministerial berths in the Congress.”
“I am a beginner to minister’s post. I require a couple of days to take in the responsibility. I will give my best to the portfolio/office relegated to me;’ Zameer Ahmed said.
