CCTV cameras to be installed in liquor shops to avoid over pricing

Bengaluru: The state excise department has changed its standards for giving out liquor shop licenses. According to the most recent standards, each alcohol shop in the state should install CCTV cameras. 

Addressing media, Excise Commissioner Munish Mudgil said that the licenses for the shops would be renewed only if CCTV cameras have been installed. The shop proprietors need to store the CCTV footage and produce it at whatever point officials ask for it, he included. 

This decision has been taken to prevent the establishments from cheating clients beyond the maximum retail price. The CCTV footage can be accessed by the officials and action taken against the sellers if there is any complaints.

Clients often complain about liquor shops running past allowed work-hours and overpricing. The shops likewise delivered fake bills to trick the clients. Without evidence, the office couldn’t take any action against the errant proprietors. The office would like to control these illegal practices by utilizing CCTV. 

It is obligatory for both retail outlets (CL2) and bars and eateries (CL9) to introduce CCTV cameras if they want to renew their licenses. In excess of 10,000 alcohol shops in Karnataka need to renew their licenses by the end of June.
