Haleyangadi: The road between Santekatte and Kadike coming within the GP limits is been inundated by rainwater. The drain close by is clogged with mud due to which the dirty waterand the rain water is overflowing.
Just a fortnight back, GP members had cleaned the road and the drain by removing the mud but to no avail. The waterlogged in front of the woman and ladies organization hall has virtually created a flood like situation.
Two wheeler riders plying towards Kadike or Santekatte are forced to take the round-about route from Haleyangadi to Padupanambur and reach via Shanaishchara temple road.
Padupanambur: Panchayat member herself relives the logged water
Since there was hindrance for the free movement of rain water along the Tokuru Kallapu road, a member of the GP took it unto herself to clear the mud on the road and thereby relive the logged water.
It was not possible for the rain water to directly flow into the drain along the road connecting Padupanambur GP because of the mud settled on the tar road. The mud was being carried down by the flowing rainwater from a private compound and GP member Kusuma Chandrashekhar had informed the persons responsible to remove it. Since they ignored her intimation, she took the work unto herself and with the help of a shovel and a pickaxe, worked for two hours and removed the mud thereby clearing the road for the clogged water to flow into the drain.
My responsibility
“Mud was deposited on the road and there was the possibility of the road being washed off along with the flowing rainwater. I requested a few, but no one responded. They say everything must be done by the panchayat. Therefore, as the representative of the people I took it as my responsibility and removed the mud myself,” explained Kusuma, Gram Panchayat member, Padupanambur.
