Venur: Without thinking of his own life, a child saved the life of his friend who had slipped on the footbridge and was falling into a flowing stream. This brave incident took place at Pandije in Nittade village on Thursday evening.

Sujay and Aditya studying at Pandije government higher primary school were on their way back home and were crossing the footbridge made of arecanut trunks when Aditya’s foot slipped and he lost his balance. Sujay, who was witnessing this quickly grabbed on to the other leg of Aditya thereby anchoring him out of the flowing stream by hanging him from the footbridge.

During this incident, since Sujay’s hand also carried his schoolbag and umbrella, he was finding it hard to hold on to Aditya and therefore started screaming for help. At the same time, terrified Aditya too started to scream for help at the top of his voice.

The loud shouts of the boys were heard by Jayanand Sathe and Aditya’s father Ratnakar Hebbar and others who rushed to the spot of the incident and saved both the boys. Until then, Sujay has held on to Aditya’s foot to nearly 4-5 minutes.

Both the boys were friends and were pursuing their education at Pundije government higher primary school. Aditya was studying in 6th std while Sujay was studying in 5th std. If Aditya was not protected he would have been snatched away by the water of the flowing stream abundant with rocks, observe those who witnessed the incident. Sujay’s bravery has garnered everyone’s appreciation.
