Bantwal: Heavy rains collapsed an old bridge at Mullarapatna-Phalguni which was connecting Mangaluru taluk to Bantwal.
The incident took place on Monday evening.
The bridge on the outskirts of Mangaluru connects Kuppepadavu, Kaikamba, Kateel, Iruvailu, Yedapadavu, and Ganjimata via Bantwal Sornadu.
Locals alleged that the bridge collapsed due to incessant illegal sand mining that has been rampant under the bridge.
