Additional strategic petro reserve at Padur approved

Udupi: Creation of an additional strategic petroleum reserve with a capacity of 2.5 million tonnes at Padur in the district has received approval at the Union Cabinet meeting. The decision was taken at the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday June 27th.
In case of crises, these additional facilities will enable the country to manage demand for petroleum products for a period of 12 days. The central government plans to set up these plants with private participation which will also create thousands of new jobs.
The proposal to set up storage facility through cavern in Chandikhol, Odisha, with a capacity of 4.4 million tonnes was also cleared by the cabinet.
