Agumbe Ghat: Landslide on the 7th bend

Hebri: Following heavy rains, a massive landslide has occurred on the seventh hairpin bend of Agumbe Ghat on early on Thursday. Though the movement of buses and other vehicles is allowed along the stretch, the police have strictly banned the passage for vehicles carrying heavy loads.

The landslide has damaged 40 meters of embankment and also the road on the 7th hairpin bend at the border of Shimoga district along NH 160A of the Udupi-Teerthahalli division.

5 minute gap

Due to the landslide and also to manage the traffic density, the vehicles are allowed to pass through from Agumbe check post with gaps of 5 minutes. Also additional ‘Bandobast’ has been done.

Collapsed retaining walls

The retaining walls built here earlier developed cracks after vehicles collided into them and the heavy rains only led to its collapse. The retaining walls at the 5th bend in Shimoga limits and the 6th bend in Udupi limits has collapsed, and if a vehicle loses control, an danger in inevitable.

Officials visit the location

NHAI assistant engineer Ravi, Karkala Tashildar Mohammed Esaak Karkala and the policie officials have visited the location of the landslide.

Ban on bus movement during night

Due to safety concerns, the movement of bus along the damaged stretch during night time has been banned until the stretch has been repaired.
