Yedapadvu/Bantwal: State Minister U.T. Khader visited and checked the bridge that had collapsed ay Mularapatna and discussed the issue with the engineer. All bridges older than 25 years must be checked and maintained. Regretting later is of no use, said Khader and also gove directions to the engineer onsite.

The minister asked the engineers on how a bridge that must last for hundreds of years collapsed within 35 years and directed them to conduct investigation and submit the report.

Petition from localities

Miscreants chopped down more than 20 arecanut and coconut trees from a farm belonging to Sundar Shetty near the connecting road where the hanging bridge is being constructed. Mr. Sunder wept as he told his story of loss to the minister.

“A temporary road has been decided to be built from Mularapatna to Kolattamajal. Discussions will be held with the owners of private land and care will be taken not to damage farm land during its construction. Since the children are scared to cross the hanging bridge, for safety reasons, home gaurds will be deployed,” informed Khader.

New bridge after discussion

U.T. Khader replied to a question from reporters and said that 6 crore rupees was required for the repair work of the old bridge and the decision to build or not to build a new bridge here will be taken only after holding discussions with the officials.
