Ramakrishna Mission’s Swachata Abhiyan; 38th Shramadan

Mangaluru: Volunteers of Ramakrishna Mission Swachata Abhiyan cleaned Kuntikana flyover and its surrounding areas on its 38th Shramadan on Sunday, July 1st.  

The volunteers removed the posters stuck on the walls of the pillars of the flyover and cleaned them. They cleaned the sides of the road and the parking lots in the area. Heaps of stinking garbage lying beside the bus shelter was lifted. The areas cleaned also included Kuntikana autorickshaw stand, road leading towards Lohith Nagar and Derebail. Weed was removed as the adjoing drains were cleaned. They also removed illegal banners and flex hoardings.

Dr Manjunath Revankar, President, Canara Builders Association, Mangaluru and Sri Santosh Shet, President, Rotary Club, Mangaluru jointly flagged off the Sharmadan in the presence of Swami Jitakamanandaji. Rotarian Iliyas Santhos, Umakanth Suvarna, Mohan Kottari, Praveen Raveendran and several others.

Dr Manjunath Revankar spoke on th occasion and said, “In spite of lot of awareness being  generated among the local public it is unfortunate that people still litter in public places. This can stop  only if local administrations impose heavy fine on such individuals. We hope in the days ahead local administrations will think proactively and take necessary steps in this direction.”

On this occasion, a special meeting in association with the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat regarding Swachh Gram Abhiyan was organised in the Ramakrishna Mutt. The meeting was attended by presidents, vice-presidents and Panchayat Development Officers of gram panchayats in Mangaluru and Bantwal taluks. M.R. Ravi, CEO of the ZP, spoke on the occasion and said the Swachh Gram Abhiyan was a model project. “It is the duty of each and every individual to beautify and clean his or her surroundings and leave this a rich legacy for future generations. This is social responsibility. This leads to community welfare,” he added.
