Mangaluru: KSRTC bus stands at Udupi, Madikeri and Dakshina Kannada will soon become mother friendly with the setup of breastfeeding centers here. This comes as a boon for mothers, who otherwise find it inconvenient to feed children in public spaces.

Realizing mother travelling with infants often have no specific place in bus stands to feed them causing them much trouble and in response to this issue KSRTC managing director S R Umashankar has put forth this initiative.

“To address this issue, exclusive breastfeeding centres will be set up at all bus stands under the jurisdiction of the KSRTC. A few have already started functioning and the other will commence soon,” informed an official.

Work has already commenced for setting up breast feeding centres in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district. The centers will be set up at Mangaluru, Udupi, Puttur, Bantwal, Dharmasthala, Sullia and Kodagu which are under Mangaluru KSRTC division.

Work is in progress at a post office which will be converted into a room for mothers at the Mangaluru KSRTC bus stand situated in Bejai.

Each breastfeeding center will have seating facilities, a bed, a separate space which is reserved for breastfeeding and a wash room. Puttur KSRTC division will provide additional services like cradle and seating facilities which can accommodate 100 people, informed the officials.
