18 TB cases identified in D.K.

Puttur: Tuberculosis disease identification Abhiyan is being run in the district and 18 cases have so far come to light. As part of the Abhiyan, TB control team visited Bhramanagar Colony and conducted inspection on Wednesday.
Tuberculosis disease identification Abhiyan is being run in the state under the central government’s aim to make India a TB free nation by 2025. The TB Abhiyan began in the district on July 2nd and will culminate on July 13th.
Of the cases that have come to light in the district, 7 cases were found on July 2nd, 3 on July 3rd and 8 on July 4th. As the Abhiyan ends on July 13th, the final numbers will be known on that day itself, informed District TB Control Officer Dr Badruddin.
A list on laborers residential area, slum, city slum, colony and ST residential areas has been created. These areas are being visited and information is being collected. On finding individuals showing symptoms, their sputum is collected and sent to the lab for testing. On finding positive result on TB infection, treatment is immediately started for the infected individual.
508 groups in the district
The district has a population of 22.50 lakh of which 2,18,000 people have been selected for the sample test. The Abhiyan is being conducted at 8 treatment unit limits in the district. To facilitate TB disease identification Abhiyan, 508 teams have been created. Each team has two persons and together there are 1,016 workers giving their service.
Junior health assistants and Asha workers have joined this Abhiyan. The district has 32 sputum testing labs. The regions where TB is common have been identified and tagged as high risk area.
