Heavy rain kills two in Puttur

Puttur: A grandmother and her grandson were crushed to death after a compound wall fell on the house they were residing in following heavy rains. The incident took place early in the morning at around 2:30am on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Parvathi (65) and Dhanush (11), both residents of Hebbarabailu. Mahesh’s son Dhanush was Parvathi’s grandson who was studying in 7th standard.
Following the heavy rains during the night, the compound wall situated at a considerable height collapsed on to the house below. During the incident, Parvathi and Dhanush were sleeping in one room of the house. The collapsed wall fell on the sleeping Parvathi and Dhanush and buried them alive. The family members, localities and corporation staff launched an operation and were able to successfully pull the victims out. The victims were immediately rushed to the hospital but to no avail.
The mortal remains of the deceased have been shifted to the mortuary at Puttur government hospital. The deceased Parvathi is survived by her two sons Mahesh and Yogish and two daughters Gayathri and Rajeshwari. A case has been registered at Puttur police station.
