Bengaluru: Five policemen including a lady PSI were suspended over the robbery of a double-barrel rifle from the KS Layout police station.
The suspended policemen are PSI Suma and constables Anand Kolekar, Basavaraj, Paramanand Koti and Ashok Biradar, all appended to the KS Layout police station.
As indicated by a senior cop, PSI Suma was in-charge for the single and double barrel rifles, and gun surrendered by people during the code of conduct of the assembly election which was held in May.
After the election, when people moved toward the police to recover their arms, one double barrel rifle was missing. A departmental request was ordered and amid the examination, it was discovered that the four constables stole the rifle when Suma was not in the station and shrouded it some place.
The constables supposedly admitted to the crime and said that they carried out the crime to convey a bad name to the Inspector and the PSI and to get them suspended.
The four constables have been booked for robbery, while PSI Suma has been suspended for abandonment of obligation.
