Mangaluru: The Concreting work of Shiradi Ghat has completed and its ancillary works in expected to be over in a week’s time, hence this section along NH 75 on Shiradi Ghat will be opened for traffic from Sunday, July 15th.

Public Works Minister H.D. Revanna and Housing, Urban Development Minister U.T. Khader will inaugurate the stretch at 11.30 a.m. at Gundya in Dakshina Kannada. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Sullia MLA Angara, and Sakleshpur MLA Kumaraswamy will also attend the inaugural. Thereby, the six months’ ordeal of road users who had to take alternative routes will come to its end.

Since 2007-08, the road was in a perpetual battered condition. The annual ritual of maintenance by spending a couple of crore rupees by the National Highways Division of the State PWD, was not much help,  since the road’s pathetic condition was a returning nightmare due to the movement of heavy good-laden vehicles.

in 2015 when Oscar Fernandes was the minister for road transport and highways, concretiing of the 26 km ghat stretch was taken up. M/s Ocean Constructions of Mangaluru completed the package 2 work in six months against the contractual period of 18 months.

On Thursday, Chief Engineer M. Ganesh, Superintending Engineer Raghavan of PWD’s NH division and senior officials have inspected the stretch.

Initially, he government had invited Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari for the formal inaugral of the road but as his dates were not available, the government is going ahead with the formal opening on July 15th.
