Seatbelts mandatory for car drivers in Udupi district

Udupi: A circular making wearing of seatbelts mandatory for car drivers in the district was issued to the traffic police by the district superintendent of police (SP) Laxman Nimbargi,in response to the demand of the general public.

During the weekly phone-in programme, there were many complaints on car drivers failing to wear seatbelts. Hence, the district police department took up the initiative of making seatbelts compulsory for the car driver. The police department have already made wearing of helmets compulsory for two-wheeler riders.

A special drive on three issues of wearing seatbelts, vehicles with tint glasses, and removing of name boards from the number plates of non-government’s officials will be held for 15 days in the district, informed the SP.

The checking process in continuing in the district and anyone found driving a vehicle without wearing seatbelt would be booked. On first offence, a fine of Rs. 100 is levied on the guilty.
