Mysuru: The Krishna Raja Sagara (KRS) dam has started to release water following the substantial rain in the state. Therefore, visitors are restricted to the dam. At present, water is being released from 30 crest gates at the rate of 65,000 cusecs, which will be increasing step by step, contingent upon the rate of inflow into the reservoir. The decision to restrict visitors to the dam was taken on Sunday, July 15.

Over the recent days, the dam has seen an extensive number of visitors from the state as well as from across the nation and abroad. They were disappointed on Sunday when they were sent back by the authorities, who restricted entry to the dam.

The crest gates of the dam were opened on Saturday when the reservoir started nearing maximum limit. The water level was drifting at around 124 ft as against its maximum limit of 124.8 ft.

After about 38 years, the KRS has reached the Full Reservoir Level (FRL), the last time being in 1980. Over the last 50 years, the KRS has reached the FRL in July on five occasions.
