Karnataka releases 26.5 tmc-ft water to neighbouring Tamil nadu

Bengaluru: With the state getting 17 percent more rainfall than expected this South West Monsoon as much as 26.5 TMC of water has reached Biligundlu in Tamil Nadu since June 1, only 7.5 TMC short of the 34 TMC Karnataka has been coordinated to release to the neighboring state before the end of July by the Supreme Court. 

With rain proceeding to hitter the Cauvery catchment zone, all the dams in the basin, including the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS), Kabini, Harangi and Hemavathi is receiving heavy inflow and having reached full repository levels (FRL) in record time, are discharging huge amounts of water into the rivers. 

The KRS released 81,842 cu-secs to the Cauvery river leading towards Tamil Nadu, trailed by Kabini which released 35,800 cu-secs on Tuesday. 

The Hemavathi released 31,875 cu-secs to the river leading to KRS dam and Harangi reservoir 21,873 cu-secs to it on Tuesday.
