Mangaluru: A MESCOM contract worker died of electrocution and eight other contract workers were grievously injured after coming in contact with high-tension wire near Maravoor bus stand on Wednesday, July 18th.

The deceased has been identified as Ganesh (55) resident of Edapadavu. The injured have been identified as Dinesh, Vishwanath, Anand, Gopal, Krishna, Dhananjaya, Padmanab and Mohan.

According to sources, 13 MESCOM contract workers were installing new electric pole when in course of the work, they accidentally came in contact with a high-tension wire of an old electric pole nearby. Negligence of MESCOM in failing to switch off the power connection before taking up the work has led to the mishap, it is alleged.

The injured have been shifted to a private hospital and a case has been registered with Bajpe police in this regard.
