50 injured in clashes over cemetry land dispute

Kolar: A cemetery land dispute between two groups swelled into a conflict at Holerahalli in Vemagal Hobli here on July 18.
Tensions availed in the village over the complaints of encroachment documented by a group from the village to the revenue department. Another group denied these claims. The revenue department authorities were in the village to determine the issue.
As indicated by reports, no less than 80 individuals were accumulated to see the overview of the cemetery land by the authorities of the revenue department. A verbal contention broke out between two groups when one of them denied any encroachment on the cemetery land. The quarrel escalated into a fistfight, harming no less than 50, including women.
The Vemagal Police who reached the spot resorted on lathi-charge to scatter the group and reestablish normalcy. The injured were taken to the government hospital in Kolar for treatment. A case has been enrolled at the Vemagal Police Station.
