Ballari: Tungabhadra river, downstream of the dam in Hosapete, was in spate because of substantial release of water. Purandara Mantap, one of the manuments in Hampi, has been submerged because of this.

On Thursday, with around 60,000 cusecs inflow, the release into the river course was around 63,000 cusecs through 22 of the 33 crest gates which have been opened to a height of two feet.

Because of the heavy rains and substantial releases from the upstream dams, the specialists are foreseeing overwhelming inflow into the dam and the present release of 63,000 cusecs into the river may additionally be increased up to 1.5 lakh cusecs. The experts have sounded a caution along the river.

Not surprisingly, the Purandara Mantap and another stone mantap close to the bathing ghat, where last rites are performed, have been submerged. The two mantaps are relatively inside the river. Individuals coming to Hampi to perform last riteshave been cautioned not to wander into the river.
