Kolar: After the water release from the disputable Koramangala-Challaghatta (KC) Valley Project polluted the Lakshmisagara Tank in Kolar on July 18, the activists from Kolar have threatened to supply the polluted water to the legislators from the district as a reminder.

Activists of the Shashwatha Neeravari Horata Samiti said that one tanker each of the foam filled water will be sent to the places of MLAs in Kolar. This exceptional type of protest was to awaken the public’s delegates to the gravity of the circumstance, the Samiti said.

The activists blamed the project authorities of releasing the secondary treated water. In the wastewater treatment process, the secondary treatment utilizes biological treatment procedure to expel organic debris from the wastewater. Tertiary water treatment expels inorganic particles, for example, the phosphates and nitrates that are normally found in detergents. Tertiary treated water is free from the foaming substances and is accepted to be suitable for general utilize.

Tha activists charged that petitions and protests repeatedly made to the representatives had failed to receive any notice. “Not even a single MLA has scrutinized the project,” said an activist of the Samiti. There are six MLAs from Kolar each representing Malur, Mulbagil, Bangarpet, Kolar, Srinivaspura and Kolar Gold Fields constituency.

The Samiti likewise denounced that the foam saw in the six tanks filled so far affirms the Samiti’s initial apprehensions about the project polluting the scarce water. Individuals of Kolar and Chikballapur are reliant on the groundwater for their drinking needs. “Once the groundwater is contaminated, there is nothing we can do to fix the damage,” the activists said.

A Samiti member, Anjaneya Reddy, documented a PIL under the steady gaze of the Karnataka High Court on June 18 questioning the government’s approval for the KC Valley venture. The case is planned to be heard by the court on Monday, July 23.
