Non-completion of highway works, NHAI officials to get summons

Udupi: The deputy commissioner (DC) of the district Priyanka Mary Francis was asked by the district in-charge secretary Maheshwar Rao, to serve summons on higher officials of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and conduct a hearing.
This move comes in response to the complaint on multitude of problems resulting due to the non-completion of highway works by NHAI within the time frame.
DC Priyanka Mary Francis spoke at the progress review meeting of district level officers headed by Rao and informed the district in-charge secretary about the failure of NHAI to complete the highway work on time and the repeated extension of time sought by highway authorities for completion of works. Lots of traffic problem is being faced by the people because of this delay and the tha people have began complaining against this problem, she added.
Mr. Rao reviewed department-wise progress and wanted all the wooden footbridges in the district to be converted into concrete ones and asked the ZP executive office to attend to this issue. He also wanted all the farmers availing of crop loans to cover their crops under insurance and that the district cooperative banks cannot pass resolution against availing of crop insurance facility, as there is clear directive from the government to cover crops under insurance. He also assured the disbursement of pending crop insurance with dues to the farmers soon.
