Man drowns in a swimming pool at Montepadavu

Ullal: A man drowned at a swimming pool Guduru at Montepadavu here on Sunday July 22nd. The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Khalil (30) and was working as a coolie at the market in Mangaluru.
After visiting a relative of his at Manjanady, Mohammed had gone to a swimming pool in the middle of a farm belonging to Abbas at Guduru in Montepadavu with his brother and five friends.
In the course of his swimming, he got trapped in the silt at the bottom of the swimming pool and consequently drowned. His mortal remains were recovered after 30 minutes, post the incident.
The lake was converted into a swimming pool
It is being said that the lake that was created for cultivation purpose was converted into a swimming pool and many swimmers used to frequent to this swimming pool on weekends. A separate swimming pool was also created for children.
It is being said that though a small fee is charged for the use of the swimming pool no lifeguard facility was provided and this lack of safety led to the drowning, it is alleged.
A case has been registered in this regard at Konaje police station.
