  • Highway authority proposal under ‘Bharatmala’ project

Mangaluru: A plan has been created to upgrade the road between Kuloor and Baikampady into a 10 lane road. If the plan is realized, for the first time there will be a 10 lane road In Karavali.

3.5kms long 10 land road

A proposal has been readied to upgrade 3.5kms of the road into a 10 lane road under the union government’s ambitious ‘Bharatmala’ project. This proposal has been sent to the Central highway authority by Mangaluru National Highway Authority. There is a possibility for conduction of an extended survey and the appointing of a consultant for the creation of the map.

Decision next week

There is a possibility that the 10 lane road proposal submitted by the highway authority may get approved at the meeting to be conducted next week at New Delhi and receive approval for the survey and the appointment of consultant of the creation of the map. Earlier a proposal for the upgrading of the road at the cost of Rs. 925 crore had been sent to the center. But, the centre considered the proposal expensive and suggested for another proposal. Now a new proposal costing Rs. 300 crore has been submitted.

Express corridor

Under ‘Bharatmala’ project, there is a plan to create a six-lane road to connect the state’s capital with the port. In this way, a six-lane road from B.C. Road to Baikampady will be constructed before. A consultant has already been appointed for its survey and creation of the map according to which the project will be implemented.

6 Lane Bridge at Kuloor

It has been decided to replace the old bridge across Phalguni River at Kuloor with a 6-lane bridge. This has been mentioned in the proposal.

Nanthoor Overpass, KPT Flyover

Under the ‘Bharatmala’ project, 6-lane road will be created between Nanthoor and Kuloor. This proposal will be submitted soon. But, since the traffic problem in Mangaluru city is getting acute, the proposal also mentions the creation of an overpass at Nanthoor and a flyover at KPT.

10-lane road will have…

  • New railway bridge at Baikampady
  • Underpass at Baikampady
  • Underpass at Panambur junction
  • Dedicated road for heavy vehicles
  • Altogether 4 service roads on both the sides

Soon after approval, survey

“The creation of 6-lane road from Bengaluru to Mangaluru under ‘Bharatmala’ project has been approved. A proposal for the creation of a 10-lane road in the industrial area coming under port limits has been sent to the Center and soon after approval, the survey will begin,” informed MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.
