Vishwavallabha Tirtha Swami of Sode Mutt will later set up a five-member panel
Udupi: In order to take care of the Mutt affairs until a successor to the Shiroor Mutt is chosen, Sode Vadiraj Mutt seer Sri Vishwavallabha Theertha Swami has been appointed as the in-charge of the Shiroor Mutt.
Sode Mutt has appointed Subrahmanya Bhat to look after ‘moola mutt’ in Shiroor Village which is at a distance of 22 kms from here, while Vittal Bhat has been appointed to oversee the maintenance of the Shiroor Mutt here in Udupi.
Vishwavallabha Tirtha Swami of Sode Mutt will be appointing a high-level five-member committee to look after the management and administrative matters related to the Shiroor Mutt, once he returns to Udupi from Bengaluru on July 27th.
A local priest is in charge of the daily pooja and prayers at the original Mutt in Shiroor and the poojas are being carried out as usual. The daily pooja is held in the morning from 7 am to 9 am and from 5 pm to 6 pm. While the cattle in the Mutt are looked after by the Mutt workers, Mr. Bhat is taking care of the payments to be made to the workers in the Mutt.
According to sources, Shiroor Mutt had nearly 2,000 acres of land under its control 40 years ago, which is now been reduced to 200 acres. The land had been offered on lease to industrialists and private organisations on charity, by the late Seer.
The Mutt is still in the custody of the police and its security has been tightened.
