Bengaluru: The truck owners, who were on a strike since seven days in support of their demand for free passage at tollgates, bringing of diesel under GST and reducing its price and so on since July 20, canceled strike on Friday July 27 after the discussions their leaders held with the representatives of the central government was a success. The strike was met under the standard of All India Motor Transport Congress.
After the central government interceded and had talks, the truck proprietors chose to withdraw their strike.
President of Lorry Owners Association, G R Shanmugappa, said that the demand of truckers was marginal, and since seven days they needed to stop movement of trucks to take care of this marginal demand. He said that proprietors of the considerable number of goods and transport vehicles had supported this strike. “During our discussion with the central government, the government said it has decided to meet our demands. Hence, we have decided to temporarily withdraw this strike,” he clarified.
The withdrawal of truck strike has come as a relief for the people, government, workers and other people who are dependent to transport business.
