Police nab main accused in Guruprasad Bhat murder

Udupi: The police have successfully arrested the main accused in the murder of Guruprasad Bhat at a club located in 7th Heaven Hotel building on Manipal – Perampally Road. The accused was nabbed on Sunday night at Uppoor Kolalgiri.

The arrested has been identified as Ranjith Pinto (37) from Kolalgiri and is the elder brother of Sujith Pinto, who has already been arrested in relation to the case. Both Ranjith and Sujith Pinto are rowdy-sheeters as per the town and Malpe police station records and have a number of other cases booked against them at various other police stations.

Earlier, the police had arrested 3 of the four absconding accused in the murder near Kandlur check post on Sunday evening. Along with nabbing the three accused, the police have also seized the Omni van and a knife that was in the possession of the accused and was used to carry out the murder.

Incident synopsis

According to the police investigation, the accused and the victim had financial with each other and Ranjith Pinto had called Guruprasad on Saturday night in this connection. Their conversation had turned into heated arguments and it is alleged that the victim had used expletives against Ranjith’s mother. Infuriated, the brothers along with the help of two others gate crashed into the club and murdered Guruprasad Bhat with a knife.

All the four arrested accused were produced before the court which remanded them to three days of police custody.
