  • All political parties preparing for the civic polls
  • Decisive test on the future of all major political parties

Udupi: On Thursday, the State Election Commission (SEC) announcing the dates for the local body polls and thus, four civic bodies in Udupi district will go to the polls on August 29th.

The four civic bodies going to the polls are the Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC), the Kundapur Town Municipal Council (TMC), the Karkala Town Municipal Council (TMC) and the Saligrama Town Panchayat.

All political parties including the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Janata Dal (Secular) have been preparing for the civic polls since the last two months. The local body polls will be the decisive test on the future of all major political parties in the district.

As usual, the polls are likely to be a battle between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress in all the four places. While Janata Dal(S) will try to build its base, CPI(M) will make sure its strong presence in Kundapur is felt.

On one hand, BJP is putting in all its efforts to repeat the performance of its victory on all five Assembly seats in Udupi district during the Assembly elections in May 2018, while on the other, Congress is filing suitable candidates in all the four places in an attempt to not to repeat the its Assembly polls debacle.
