Bengaluru: Plans are afoot to give a new image to the state police constables with the proposal to replace their slouch caps with peak caps like their Tamil Nadu counterparts.
The preparations are on to bring the change and are expected to boost the image of the policemen in the eyes of the general public. The improvement in the appearance of the constables will make them look like a higher level official.
Director General of state police, Neelamani N Raju chaired a meeting held in the state police headquarters here and serious discussions about change in design of caps and uniforms of constables were held, on Saturday August 4th.
The central health department had, in its report to the police department here, observed that slouch caps create obstacles during law and order maintenance and operations and that their design is not in the interests of the health of the constables. Hence, according to the current plan, the constables will sport peak caps like the ones currently worn by police inspectors.
