Illegal sand mining units seized at Adyar

Mangaluru: Police raided illegal sand extraction units which were operational at Adyar and seized 30 loads of sand and demolished 33 sheds here.

Based on a tip off, the officials visited the spots on Monday evening and found around 25 boats here which were used for sand mining. 

Notices have been issued for four more buildings, and search operations will continue, they said.

Deputy director of mines and geology department, Sumitra, has filed complaint in the city rural police station, seeking to register case against illegal sand mining within Coastal Regulatory Zone.

“Using earth mover, all the makeshift tents were demolished, and the equipments used to extract sand, were seized,” said Sumithra. 

Deputy director informed that police help was obtained for the raids and the sand mafia did not make any attempt to attack the government officials.

As per the direction of the DC Sasikanth Senthil, the seized sand was handed over to the construction of new DC complex at Padil.
