Mangaluru: While natural calamities often seem to bring out the humane side of several people, willing to extend a helping hand, in the form of aids to the grief-stricken, it also exposes those who do not fail to seize such opportunity to make some easy money for themselves.
A series of recent incidents that have been reported from the city in the aftermath of the Kerala and Kodagu flood calamities has thus forced the district administration to warn people to not hand out cash, cheques or any other relief materials to any person, organisation other than the ‘Chief Minister’s Relief Fund’, and that too only through cheques or DD.
Reportedly, the district administration has received complaints from people who have been either duped or forced to pay money for the relief flood by miscreants roaming around with a box, labeled as ‘Aid for flood victims’ in places like Kalladka, Mangaluru and Madikeri.
Meanwhile, those who wish to voluntarily donate towards the relief fund can do so by issuing a cheque, DD to ‘Chief Minister’s Calamity Relief Fund Karnataka State’ for Kodagu flood victims. The account number for purpose of direct cash transfer is 37887098605 IFSC Code: SBIN0040277
For Kerala flood victims, cash or DD should be sent to ‘Chief Minister’s Calamity Relief Fund Kerala State’and for direct cash transfer the Account number: 67319948232 IFSC Code: SBIN0070028.
