Ballari: Even as help continues to pour in from various quarters for those affected in flood-hit Kodagu, prisoners lodged in Ballari jail too decided to do their bit by foregoing their non-vegetarian meals and contributing the money thus saved to the relief fund.
As a practice, the jail inmates are served non-vegetarian meals – mutton or chicken on every Saturday and Sunday. It is learnt that the jail inmates, who have been moved by the plight of the Kodagu flood victims decided to skip this treat for a total of four weeks and have requested the jail authorities to donate the money, thus saved to the relief fund.
By skipping the non-vegetarian meals for these four weekends, the prisoners would be saving approximate two-three lakhs of rupees which will be used for the noble cause.
Meanwhile, it is gathered that this amount would be transferred once the jail authorities get a go-ahead for the same by the state government tomorrow.
