Madikeri: Lokayukta Vishwanath Shetty suggests that children who are in relief camps and are missing school should be enrolled in residential schools to ensure that classes are not affected.

Addressing the media after a meeting with officials of the district administration, he said “There is a possibility of disruption in children’s education. Several private institutions have come forward to educate the children and this help should be utilised. Flood-affected children should be compulsorily enrolled in residential schools,” and arrangements would be made for the remaining ones.

Walter D’Mello, Deputy director of Education department said that total of 763 students were affected and arrangements have been made for 80% of them so far in the nearby schools.

He said a report should be prepared within a week on restoring Mangaluru-Mysuru highway, which has been closed after the road was washed away at several places.
