ULB polls at D.K, Udupi district: Brisk polling witnessed

Mangaluru: Voting for the urban local bodies elections gained momentum after a relatively low voter turnout today ( August 31) morning. The polling commenced at 7 am and will continue till 5 pm.

Elections are being held for the urban local bodies elections of Ullal and Puttur City Municipal Corporations, Bantwal Town Municipal Corporation and four local bodies of Udupi district i.e Udupi CMC, Saligrama Town Panchayat, Kundapura and Karkala TMC. The counting of votes and results will be announced on September 3. Electronic voting machines (EVMs) are being used for the elections and voters have the option to exercise NOTA.

Dakshina Kannada:

A total of 250 candidates – 102 in Ullal, 71 in Bantwal and 77 in Puttur – are contesting the elections to the 89 wards – 31 wards of Ullal CMC, 27 wards in Bantwal and 31 wards of Puttur CMC in the Dakshina Kannada district. 

Ullal CMC: Of the 43 polling booths set up, 18 are most sensitive and 11 sensitive stations.  It has 44,132 registered voters and 172 polling staff deployed for election duty. 

Bantwal TMC: Of the 32 polling booths set up,  18 are very sensitive and 14 sensitive. The total number of voters is 34,102 and 128 polling staff has been deployed for election duty.  

Puttur CMC: Of the 41 booths in Puttur, 27 happen to be sensitive. The total number of voters is 39,745 and nearly 164 polling staff deployed for election duty. 

Udupi district:

There are 35 wards in Udupi, 16 in Saligrama, 23 each in Kundapura and Karkala. 98 polling stations have been set up in Udupi, 16 in Saligarama and 23 each in Kundapura and Karkala.

A total number of 97,561; 12,961; 23,302 and 20,604 voters are registered in Udupi, Saligrama and Kundapura and Karkala respectively.
