Udupi: Preparations are in full swing for the Sri Krishna Janmashtami at Sri Krishna Math here. Flowers and lighting adorn the Car Street and all the eight Mutts in view of the festival.

This year, Sri Krishnastami falls on Sep. 2nd and is celebrated to mark the incarnation of Lord Narayana in the form of Lord Krishna on earth. The birth was taken in human form to annihilate the evil spirits which had spread terror and who were becoming a burden for the earth. The divine incarnation is believed to have occurred when Rohini Nakshatra was ruling during the fortnight of waning moon of Simha month as per Hindu calendar.

In the backdrop of the upcoming festival many religious and cultural programmes are being organized in the Mutt coupled with various competitions like Rangoli, fancy dress, singing of devotional songs, and many others.

Thousands of devotees have been expected to arrive from the across the nation to the town to take part in the celebrations. Hence, the police have increased security in and around the car street here for the peaceful Vitla Pindi followed by Mosaru Kudike and other festival activities.

Many CCTV cameras have been installed in front of the Mutt and at other vantage points to keep a close watch on the proceedings. The footage recorded through CCTVs will be monitored by the police officials.
