Sullia: The putrefied mortal remains of a senior citizen was found at his own home at Kalchare in Panja – Pambattady village in the taluk on Saturday morning September 8th. The deceased has been identified as Subramanya Bhat (60) from Kalchare.

It is understood that the deceased was living alone. In fact, his demise was noticed by his neighbours only after a postman who visited the house to drop a letter, informed them about the foul smell emanating from inside the house. Since Mr. Bhat was not seen outside his home since a few days, the neighbours informed the Subramanya police. On reaching the spot the police ascertained that Bhat had indeed expired. The mortal remains of the deceased has been dispatched to Mangaluru for post-mortem.

There is suspicion that the death might have occurred 10 days back. It still remains unclear if it was a suicide or a murder. According to locals, Mr. Bhat had severed his connections with wife and children, and was living on his own. It is gathered that he was also involved with money lending business.

It is suspected by some people that those who had financial dispute with the deceased might have misused his loneliness and killed him. The police investigation will bring out the truth, the people hope.

District superintendent of police, Dr Ravikanthe Gowda, Puttur deputy superintendent of police, Srinivas, local circle inspector, Sathish Kumar, station house officer, Gopal, etc visited the spot and conducted scrutiny. Finger print experts and sniffer dogs have also been pressed into service.
