Leopard falls into a well, drowns

Udupi: A leopard fell into a well and drowned at Shiriyar village in Udupi district on Saturday on September 8th. The four-year-old leopard was chasing a dog when it fell into the well at Haryady area at around 4 am, informed Range Forest Officer, Shankarnarayana.

On receiving information of the incident, the Forest Department and its staff reached the spot around 8 am. But the leopard was not found in the well. Consequently, the Department pressed divers into service recovered the carcass from the 20-feet-deep well.

The carcass was taken to the Forest depot at Hardalli-Mandalli village, where a veterinarian performed a post-mortem. It was later cremated.
