Bengaluru: To boost eco friendly Ganesha idols, Mayor R Sampath Raj distributed 300 eco-friendly idols to citizens as part of the awareness campaign organised by the BBMP welfare association.
The event was held at Cubbon Park gate where the Mayor handed over Ganesha idols to visitors.
The event also comprised of a street play which explained the danger to the environment posed by Plaster of Paris idols.
“The BBMP is raiding shops selling PoP Ganesha idols,” Raj said at the event. “We are also creating awareness among the vendors selling these idols. I urge citizens not to buy the idols that pollute our lakes and damage our environment. Using eco-friendly idols has been in our culture.”
