Bagalkote: A Bagalkote man impersonating as a doctor for over four years now has finally landed behind the bars.
The man identified as Vikas happens to be a BSc (nursing) degree holder. He, however, began claiming himself as a doctor as he felt inferior to call himself a nursing graduate. He even managed to create fake certificates to establish his credentials as a doctor.
Reportedly, Vikas secured a job as the district health officer in Gadag by submitting these forged documents and has worked at several primary health centres across Chitradurga and Gadag districts ever since. Moreover, he is said to have performed over 36 post-mortems while impersonating the doctor.
His con came to light during a recent verification of his documents following a complaint by a family member of the actual Dr Vikas Patil.
The police and officials of the Health and Family Welfare department have initiated an investigation as to how the impersonator got to perform the post-mortems.
