Bengaluru/London: Liquor baron Vijay Mallya on Wednesday said that he met Arun Jaitley before leaving India.
However Jaitley denied to this and said the statement is “factually false”.
Mallya who arrived to appear before the Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London, told that he had met the Jaitley and offered to settle the issue with the banks.
“I left India because I had a scheduled meeting in Geneva. Before leaving I met the finance minister and offered to settle (the issue with the banks), Mallya said, without naming the minister.
Arun Jaitley was the Finance Minister in 2016 when Mallya left India.
A verdict is expected on the petition filed by India seeking deportation of liquor baron Vijay Mallya by the Westminster Court.
The judge heard both the arguments and counter-arguments by advocates of both sides on September 12 and postponed the case to December 10 for the order.
