Lorry hits scooter- rider dies on spot

Udupi: A scooter rider died on the spot after a lorry hit his scooter at Ayyappa Nagara in Hejamady on national highway 66 on Saturday, September 15th.
The deceased is identified as Jayraj(55) from Nejar. He was employed abroad had been to hometown. He is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter.
According to the available details, the Palm oil tanker was on its way to Sringeri from Mangaluru harbour. Due to over-speeding, the driver lost control on the vehicle, hit the divider and overturned towards the opposite lane of the highway. It collided with the Jayraj’s scooter plying from opposite direction, and trapped him under the lorry.
After almost half an hour of continuous effort, the people were finally able to pull out Jayaraj from beneath the truck. But by then, the impact and the weight beneath which he was crushed had already claimed his life.
The deceased was going to Pakshikere from Udupi. Padubidri police have registered a case and the driver of the lorry has been arrested.
