Bengaluru: The BMTC, KSRTC, NWKRTC, NEKRTC had earlier requested the government to hike the bus fares by 18-20 per cent and had got approval from the government on this.

Minutes after the announcement, of the hike, Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy put a stay on this order.

The CM’s office said that they can’t increase bus fares on the same day as the order was issued to reduce sales tax on petrol and diesel.

Transport Minister Thamanna also said that the department is finding it difficult to run the services due to fuel price hike, but due to heavy losses they had no option but to go for a price hike in the fares to compensate for the losses.
