Mangaluru: the opposition is trying hard to destabilise the coalition government in the state, said Minister of urban development and housing U T Khader, addressing the media on Sunday, September 23rd.

“The coalition government in the state is stable and within a short time has won the hearts of people. After loan waiving and successful disaster management at Madikeri and some parts of Dakshina Kannada, people have started to appreciate the government. They want it to continue,” said the minister.

“The opposition is not happy and wants to create problems. The opposition should give valuable suggestions to the government for its smooth running. But here, the opposition has forgotten its duty and engaged in spreading false news about the government,” observed Mr Khader.

The minister spoke about Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme and said, “September 20 was the last date for uploading the documents for Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme. Out of 69,000 applicants, 18,000 have submitted proper documents online and the government has approved it. There are few who failed to upload the documents online due to various reasons. We are providing them another chance. They should approach the PDO of their panchayat. As per his report, the department will unlock the applicant’s online account and they can submit the documents. The PDO should visit the applicant’s site and give proper report. The PDO will be accountable for the report.”

“The chief minister has summoned a meeting tomorrow. Deputy commissioners and top officials will attend the meeting. A discussion on the issue of sand shortage in state also has been included in the meeting. We, the districts Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada are seeking relaxation in government’s sand policy. Regarding this, I have already had discussions with the CM. There is a huge demand for sand in Kerala. Because of this demand, we are facing problems. Hence, we need to sort out sand issue in Kerala. If Kerala gets enough sand, automatically we will get sand for lower price. At present, agents are smuggling sand to Kerala for higher rate. Hence, we allow to transport imported sand from Mangaluru port by road to Kerala,” he added.

Mangaluru Dasara

Speaking on the upcoming Mangaluru Dasara celebration, Mr Khader said, “Mangaluru Dasara preparations are in full swing. The government and its various departments have already started their duty for smooth celebration of Mangaluru Dasara. The government is also ready to sanction more funds to Mangaluru for its traditional Dasara celebration,” he assured.
