Bengaluru: A downpour accompanied by strong wind lashed the city and suburbs, flooding roads and uprooting scores of trees with rainfalls ranging from 12 cm to 20 cm being recorded in the space of just a few hours till Monday morning.
Bengaluru South region bore the brunt of the rains which started around 11.30 pm Sunday night and continued till early Monday due to “wind discontinuity”, officials said.
However, normal life was not affected much as the rains stopped early Monday in several areas.
Anjanapura Layout recorded the maximum of 20.6 cm till 5 am Monday, followed by Gottigere 18.2 cm and Kengeri 12.5 cm, Karnataka Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre Director Srinivasa Reddy said.
There was no a cyclonic system and the heavy rains were caused by a wind discontinuity from Tamil Nadu to South interior Karnataka, he told PTI.
At several places, inundation was reported in the basements of apartments and fire force pumped out the water.
At Rajarajeshwari Nagar, which recorded 12.6 CM rain till 7.45 am, a huge tree was uprooted and fell on a temple causing partial damage, officials said.
