Mangaluru: Expressing their discontent over shortening of Dasara holidays in schools, members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal met Dakshina Kannada district education officer and submitted a request to allow the holidays from October 7-21 itself.
It may be recalled that the government had decided to reduce the Dasara holidays for schools by 7-days to make up for the deficit in the studies resulting due to the holidays granted in view of the torrential rains.
Contending that the Dasara is celebrated in the region with huge grandeur, they said that granting holidays for this festival has been an old custom. Further they alleged that the decision to reduce the Dasara holidays while granting liberty to schools to sanction Christmas holidays as they liked reflected the double standards of the government.
Sharan Pumpwell, divisional secretary of VHP; Mangaluru district president Jagadish Shenava, district president Gopal Kuthar and others were present.
