Drunk soldiers assault policemen, four arrested

Kadaba: Two soldiers and their friends, who were intoxicated, assaulted policemen on duty and damaged police vehicle at Mardhala near here on the night of Sunday, September 30th.
The two soldiers identified as Ratnakar and Harish, who are serving in Indian defence force were on their yearly leave and their friends Dinesh, Prashant and others thrashed the policemen on duty. Sub-inspector of Kadaba police station Prakash Devadiga and personnel Shreeshaila, Shivaprasad, Puttaswamy and home guard Yogish are the people who were attacked.
During the assault, a police vehicle was also damaged. The alcohol meter that is used to measure the alcohol content of people was smashed by the culprits. The injured police have been admitted to the Kadaba community hospital. Puttur rural circle inspector Gopala Naika visited the hospital and enquired about the well being of the injured police personnel.
As per the information given by the police personnel who were assaulted, the gang of inebriated soldiers and their friends are said to have threatened to put fire to the police vehicle.
The incident
On Sunday around 8:30 pm, the police were carrying out routine checking of vehicles when the incident occurred at Chakotekere near Mardhala. Police stopped soldiers Harish and Ratnakar, who were riding a bike without wearing the helmet. The soldiers got infuriated at the questioning of the police and used abusive language. They also questioned the police as to who are they to question the soldiers and started to assault them.
When the police tried to protect themselves, friends of the soldiers like Dinesh, Prashant and others got involved in the fight and thrashed the policemen on duty. Of the injured policeman, Puttaswamy’s tooth was broken and Shreeshaila suffered head injuries.
The attackers were arrested after additional police forces were summoned.
