Two teams led by Madikeri DySP Sundar Raj and DCIB inspector Mahesh had been formed to nab Nanda Nanaiah, who had gone absconding soon after the incident. Reportedly Nanda Nanaiah parked his Duster car, used at the time he committed the crime at his residence and absconded on his motorbike.

Acting on credible information, a team of police personnel led by Sundar Raj traced and arrested him. They also seized the revolver, live bullets, one Duster car and a motorbike in his possession.
