Mangaluru: Daan Utsav (formerly The Joy of Giving Week) is a 100% volunteer-driven initiative, which encourages people to do any act of giving of their choice.  Started in 2009, the festival is celebrated between Oct 2-8, across the country. As of 2015, over 1000+ cities and towns, several districts and villages all over India came forward and celebrated giving in their own way. Daan Utsav is a great platform that brings together people from all walks of life and encourages them to celebrate “Giving” – time, money, material, skill or just love. A fantastic unifier that dissolves boundaries by the pure act of “Giving”.

How ACT is celebrating Daan Utsav?

ACT volunteers have been celebrating Daan Utsav, since the year 2016 have been celebrating Daan Utsav by getting together with public and feeding stray animals on a Sunday morning during the week of Daan Utsav. The number of participants turning up at the event has been increasing each year and this year itself over 25 volunteers from ACT have signed up for the animal feeding event. For those people who have a compassion for animals but are unable to join the Daan Utsav programme on Sunday morning ACT has put forth a sincere request to feed stray animals around their neighborhood and share those pictures on social media with #actdaanutsav18. This being the 10th Anniversary of Daan Utsav ACT is hopeful that more people in the city would join them in the celebrations.

How people can celebrate Daan Utsav with ACT as the beneficiary?

Provided below are alternate options for people to celebrate Daan Utsav where ACT can be the beneficiary.

– People can donate dog/cat/puppy/kitten food, old bedsheets, blankets, doormats, newspaper, dog soaps and medicated shampoos. These items can be dropped off at Rangoli Digitals in Bejai or Not Just Blinds, opposite Chefs in Kadri, Mangalore.

– People who live far away or are unable to drop off these items can also contribute online through Donatekart. As a way of celebrating Daan Utsav, Donatekart.org has come up with a crowdfunding campaign during this season where most products donated will be matched by generous brands and sellers. To contribute through this method, one needs to log on to Donatkart.org and click on our campaign named “Angel for Pet” or click https://www.donatekart.com/ACTM/thebiggivingdays_act#/ Items on our wish list here range from Rs.30/- to Rs 1500/-.

Last but not the least ACT urges each Mangaluruean to celebrate Daan Utsav and experience the Joy of Giving for themselves.
